A possible former extractive pit of post-medieval to mid-19th century date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1971 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, at Windwhistle, Culmstock. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 30m in length by 22m in width. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted in this location on First Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting the pit had passed out of use by the late 19th century.
