Orchards are depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchards are largely covered in trees, although by 1971 these have been partly cleared and by 1999 have been almost completely cleared. The earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established for increased soil depth and improved drainage are northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned and occupy three plots of west and southwest facing slope to the northeast and southwest of Nicholashayne Farm.
