Possible earthwork banks of post-medieval to 19th century date are visible on aerial photographs of 1989 onwards, to the northwest of Nicholashayne Farm, Culmstock. The earthworks, which are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.81 hectares of southwest facing slope, may represent the remains of a former orchard, the banks providing improved drainage and increased soil depth for the fruit trees. The presence of orchards within the immediate vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map would support this, although if this is the case, then it had evidently passed out of use by the mid-late 19th century. The earthwork banks were not clearly visible on other aerial photographs or digital images made available to the survey and their present day survival is uncertain.
