Cropmarks which have possibly formed over a levelled earthwork mound of a prehistoric barrow are visible on aerial photographs of 1971 and digital images derived from aerial photographs of 1999 onwards, on Black Down Common, Culmstock. The sub-circular shaped feature, which is most clearly visible on digital images of 2001, measures approximately 20m in diameter and has been truncated by a northeast to southwest aligned field boundary. The cropmarks have been tentatively interpreted as evidence of a possible prehistoric barrow. This interpretation is supported by the presence of other barrows recorded in the vicinity here to the northeast (MDV1882) and northwest (MDV49869).
