A possible former extractive pit of post-medieval to mid-19th century date is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, northwest of Alder Grove, Culmstock. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 80m in length by 42m in width and is located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded during this survey. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century. The former extractive pit has been almost completely levelled by 1989.
