Cropmarks which have formed over infilled ditches of a possible former medieval field boundary are visible on aerial photographs of 1971, to the east of Upcott Farm, Culmstock. The segmented sections of cropmarks form a single linear northwest to southeast aligned field boundary which broadly respects the historic field patterns depicted here on the Culmstock Parish Tithe map of 1838-48, characterised as medieval enclosures based on strip fields. The visible cropmarks do not correspond with any field boundaries shown here on this map, or subsequent historical maps made available to the survey, suggesting the field boundaries had passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
