A branched trackway is visible on aerial photographs taken from the 1940s and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. At the end of each branch an elongated earthwork mound is visible, and these mounds resemble spoil heaps. Parts of the trackways correspond to a routeway depicted on the late-19th century mapping, linking the nearby Little Bever Farm with the road to the south. This track seems to have been adapted since the late-19th century to enable the spoil to be deposited. It is possible that it could be associated with two earthwork pits immediately to the north (MDV119133). However the track links the mounds with the road to the south rather than with the pits to the north, and it is tempting to suggest that they are associated with the military hospital (MDV49431).

Dean, R., 2018, Land at east of Axminster, Devon: Geophysical Survey (Report - Geophysical Survey). SDV361775.

This report presents the results of an archaeological geophysical survey at the site. The survey was commissioned by AC Archaeology Ltd on behalf of clients in support of a planning application.

Anomaly groups 12, 13 and 16 represent a track and two spoil heaps recorded on historic maps, aerial photographs and lidar images. These groups represent relatively strongly magnetic deposits which are likely to be composed of highly heated material or ferrous material. Usually, such deposits are derived from industrial activities. In this case the source of the materials within the deposits is not recorded.
