Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 and 1971, at Windwhistle, Culmstock. The earthworks are situated within land parcel 110 on the Culmstock Parish Tithe Map which is recorded as an orchard on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchard trees have been completely cleared, leaving a series of parallel east to west aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established for increased soil depth and improved drainage, visible. These banks occupy an area of approximately 0.15 hectares of west facing slope. The orchard banks are not visible after 1971 and their survival is uncertain.
