The visible earthworks did not correspond with any depicted boundaries.

A shallow curvilinear ditch up to 10 metres wide was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 as an earthwork over 100m long on the north-east facing slopes overlooking Birch Oak Farm, Yarcombe parish.
The visible earthwork did not correspond with any features depicted on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. It falls within a band of fields around the farm characterised as being of post-medieval enclosure, but the relict earthwork was more in keeping with curvilinear boundaries just beyond this band, characterised as being derived from strip fields of medieval date.
It has therefore been interpreted as the remains of a former field boundary probably of medieval to early post-medieval date that was removed prior to the late-19th century.
