During World War II, training activity on Mardon Down included the installation of a number of sunken, circular earthworks, which may have housed heavy machine guns or other anti-aircraft weaponry.
One of these lies approximately 40 metres north-east of the pond on Mardon Down. The earthwork comprises a circular, flat bottomed pit with an embanked circumference.
Included on the 1:2500 scale version of the survey. No further details supplied at this time.
