Vis=friar's hele, along with crocker's hele and gifford's hele were hela in domesday and hele in 1242. Friar's hele was held by william le poure in 1278. It was called hele le povere in 1288, and hele pore in 1346. The modern farm traces its name to the family of godfridus frye (mawer et al).
