The visible earthworks did not correspond with any features explicitly depicted as a pit in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, but did fall within a plot depicted as an orchard. This might support the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
