Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.
An irregularly shaped pit circa 25 by 30 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey but does fall within a plot depicted as an orchard. This supports the interpretation that the visible earthworks may be the remains of an extractive that pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century and was subsequently reused as an orchard. The pit remains largely obscured by trees.
