The visible earthwork does not correspond with any depicted pit feature.

An irregularly shaped pit up to 90 by 30 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. This might support the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century. Earthwork mounds on the southern edge of the pit, abutting the road, might be evidence of spoil. The pit remains largely obscured by trees on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
