An oval ditched enclosure was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on a small terrace of mass-movement geological origin on the east facing slopes south of Birch Oak Farm, Yarcombe Parish. The ditch is less than 3 metres wide and encloses an area of circa 600 square metres. No entrance is identifiable.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey. The plot in which the earthworks are located is depicted as scrub on the OS First Edition 25inch map and an orchard on the Second Edition.
It is possible that the ditch was made as a stock-proof barrier during tree planting of post-medieval to 19th century date,
The earthworks remain largely obscured by tree cover in 2014.
