Five pits between circa 10 and 40 metres across were visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, on the east-facing combe slope west of Ford House, Membury parish.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pits shown on the 19th century maps the survey. Larger relict pits are depicted to the north and south, recorded separately as former marl pits. It is possible therefore that the smaller pits recorded here are also former marl pits that had passed out of use prior to the mid-19th century.
