A roughly D-shaped pit circa 70 by 30 metres across was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the 19th century mapping available to the survey, the location of the pit shown as part of Godworthy Moor Allotments under woodland on the Tithe Map for Membury.
This might support the interpretation that the visible earthworks are the remains of an extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century that was subsequently used as woodland.
The pit is obscured from view by dense tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
