A former extractive pit of possible post-medieval to mid-19th century date is visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014, to the northeast of Higher Ashculm, Hemyock. The earthwork is irregular in shape, measures approximately 26m in length by 24m in width and abuts an historic field boundary along its western edge. The visible earthworks partly correspond with a pit-feature shown in this location on the 1838-48 Parish Tithe map. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pit had passed out of use prior to the mid- 19th century.
