Earthwork ditches of a possible 19th century water channel are visible on aerial photographs of 1948 onwards and on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010, southeast of Clayhidon, Clayhidon parish. The sinuous earthworks form a northeast to southwest aligned water channel visible to a length of approximately 300m. The water channel is situated on southeast facing slope and is parallel to the main village through road. Digital images of 2010 show the northern extent of the water channel has been levelled following extension of grounds associated with the Half Moon Inn, with an additional spur now visible off the main channel which continues northwest towards the main road. This spur, which is not visible on earlier aerial photographs, may have been dug to divert the flow of water from a possible water source into the main channel as a means of aiding drainage sometime during, or after the extension of the pub grounds. This later spur was not mapped during this survey as it is of likely later 20th century date.
