A roughly rectangular shaped pit circa 37 by 12 metres across was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014. The pit was not identified on any earlier images that could be viewed in stereo and the transcription might therefore not reflect the full extent of the earthwork.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit shown on the 19th century maps available to the survey and is interpreted as the remains of a former extractive pit that had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
