A former extractive pit of possible post-medieval to mid-19th century date is visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2008, to the northeast of Barne Farm, Clayhidon. The sub-oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 50m in length by 30m in width. The earthworks partly correspond with a circular shaped feature shown in this location on the 1838-48 Parish Tithe map and with a group of trees on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pit had likely passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
