Possible tree-planting banks of former post-medieval to 19th century orchards are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1948 and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2008, to the northeast of Springfield Farm, Clayhidon. The earthwork banks, on which the possible fruit trees were established for increased soil depth and improved drainage, are north to south and northwest to southeast aligned and occupy a combined area of approximately 0.52 hectares of southeast facing slope, within two adjacent historic land parcels. The earthwork banks do not correspond with any orchards shown in this location on the available 19th century mapping. This supports the interpretation that if orchards were once present here, then they had evidently passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
