A network of linear and curvilinear earthwork ditches are visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. They form a rough grid; wider ditches are aligned cross-contour and seem to have been taken off a substantial channel depicted on the early-20th century maps and which probably originated at a sluicegate on the River Kit. Narrower channels run perpendicular to these and many are aligned slightly downslope, apparently distributing the water across the field. The earthworks are interpreted as the remains of a post-medieval or 19th century catchmeadow water management system. Parts may still have been in use in the early-20th century. Some ditches do not appear to fit the pattern and these may have been earlier or later drainage ditches, or have been modified since the catchmeadow ceased operation.
