Speccott Barton is marked 'On Site of a Mansion' on the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map.

Specott was Spectona in Domesday. It was held by Goislebert or Tetbald, Son of Berner. Before the conquest it was held by Ailaf. Licence to hold services in the Manor of Speccott was granted by Bishop Lacy in 1438. Early descents given.

A plan of the farmstead at the time of the Tithe Map is copied onto the back of the worksheet. A number of documents relating to Speccot, and in particular to enclosures on Speccot Moor (17th century onwards) are in the Devon Record Office.
