A narrow curvilinear ditch was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards as a subtle earthwork on the south-facing slopes south-east of Sunnylands Farm, Brockfields, Chardstock parish.
The ditch is interpreted as the possible gutter of a catch meadow irrigation system. Catch meadows were popular in the 19th century but many continued in use into the mid-20th century.
The possible gutter did not appear to be in use in April 1947 and had therefore probably passed out of use some time prior to the 1940s.
The feature is visible as a very slight earthwork on digital images derived from photographs captured in 2014.
