An irregularly shaped pit was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards to the east of Middle Ridge, Chardstock parish. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit shown on the 19th century maps available to the survey. The pit is interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit, probably a chalk pit of post-medieval to 19th century date that had passed out of use by the mid-19th century. It may be the same feature recorded as MDV63378.
