An oval pit circa 25 by 15 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1947, on the south-east facing slopes north-east of Burridge Farm,, Chardstock parish.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey. The pit is therefore interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit, probably a chalk pit or sandstone quarry of post-medieval to 19th century date that had passed out of use by the late-19th century.
The bank was not identified as an earthwork on later images available to the survey and may have been levelled.
