Full description

Long rectangular building with an internal division shown on 19th century map with an irregular shaped structure to the south.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

Long rectangular building shown on early 20th century map with two internal divisions and a long triangular feature to the south.

Smith , J. R. + Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1996, Shaugh Bridge China-Clay Works: An Archaeological Evaluation, Sites 17-19, 9 + survey (Report - Evaluation). SDV360309.

Site 17: Thickening Tank to the rear of the 'Pan' is 5 metre wide and circa 3 metres deep. This smaller of the two tanks is constructed of granite masonary cement rendered on three sides with two hatch doors allowing access to the 'Pan'. A slurry channel feeds into this tank directly from a settling tank to the south-east.
Site 18: The larger of the two settling tanks has four hatch doors and a well preserved 'button-hole launder' in the north-west corner. The depth is circa 3 metres. The south end is obscured by a mound of rubble which may represent part of the collapsed wall of the kiln.
Site 19: Substantial granite faced slurry channel 1 metre wide by 0.7 metres deep links the settling tanks to the south to the southern thickening tank.

Ordnance Survey, 2017, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV359962.

Long rectangular building with an internal division at the northern end shown on modern mapping. A narrow channel is shown to the south.
