An irregularly shaped pit was visible on aerial photographs of 1971 and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 as earthworks up to approximately 40 by 100 metres in size, to the south-east of New Barn Farm, Yarcombe. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pits shown on the 19th century maps available to the survey but do fall within a plot depicted as an orchard, listed as Pit Orchard on the Tithe Apportionment for Yarcombe.
The pit earthworks are interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit potentially of post-medieval to early 19th century date that had passed out of use and subsequently been reused as an orchard prior to the later-19th century.
