A D-shaped pit is visible as an earthwork to the north-west of Elscombe Cottage, Yarcombe, on aerial photographs of 1971, as an earthwork up to approximately 15 metres across.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pits shown on the 19th century maps available to the survey.
The pit earthwork is interpreted as the remains of an extractive pit potentially of post-medieval to early 19th century date that had passed out of use by the later-19th century.
The earthworks are largely obscured from view by vegetation on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
