Mounds varying from circular to elongated and irregular in shape and from circa 15 to 65 metres across, were visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1948 to the south-east of Old Woodhayne Farm, Yarcombe. The mounds are partly obscured by tree cover but the morphology of the mounds indicates that the earthworks were built up in phases. This and the proximity of previously recorded limestone quarries to the west and south might support the interpretation that they are the remains of finger-dumps of spoil from previously unrecorded quarry excavations. No quarry is depicted in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map of circa 1880-1890, indicating that the works that had probably passed out of use by the later-19th century.
The earthworks are obscured from view by dense tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010.
