Full description

Oliver, 1842, Ecclesiastical Antiquities in Devon (Monograph). SDV336342.

Hall on site of 1314 hall and outbuildings. A large mansion formerly seat of family of the name of Hall. Granted in 1314 by Bishop Stapeldon to William Hall. In 1444 Bishop Lacey licensed Richard Chichester to have divine service performed "in capella intra mansum de hall".

Pre 1846 building completely demolished including cellars. Outbuildings are of stone and probably date from 15th to early 17th century. Present house occupies site of old mansion (see PRN 40170).


Gallant, L., 1986, Deer Parks and Paddocks of England (Un-published). SDV656.

Prince in 1701 stated that Hall had come from Ralegh to the Chichester family. Pole writing in 1635 stated that Symon Hall's daughter married Richard Chichester of Ralegh.
