Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

A series of buildings are depicted on the early 20th century historic map in the north-western corner of Castor Copse; labelled as 'Hawkmoor Mine (Iron)'. At least six separate structures illustrated by the Ordnance Survey.

Processing area sketched, with remains of buildings noted as 5a-f. A, B and C are rectangular depressions; A: measures 7.0 metres by 3.0 metres, stone revetted north and west. B (to north of A) measures 7.0 by 2.0 metres. C (north of B) measures 5.0 by 3.0 metres with possible channel to river. D (at eastern end of B) is a small stone tank measuring 2.5 by 2.0 metres. E (lies 2.0 metres to the east of D) and comprises a little brick structure measuring 1.5 metres by 2.5 metres with rectangular structure (platform) 2.5 metres to the north. F lies to the east of E and comprises a rectangular recess 4.0 by 2.0 metres (approximately). Sketch looks like the south-eastern corner of a rectangular building (see 1905 Ordnance Survey map).
