Located in the eastern part of the woodland, this was associated with the late 19th / early 20th-century Hawkmoor Mine. Not depicted on the early 20th century historic map, it is shown on the modern mapping. Lies to the east of the mine, and makes use of a natural rock outcrop.

Full description
Dartmoor National Park Authority, 1989, Castor Copse - Archaeological Features Interim Note, Sketch plan, feature 4 (Un-published). SDV360478.
Shelter (feature 4) recorded east of the main area of the mine workings, close to the old trackway through the wood. The shelter utilises natural rock on two sides and as the roof. The north and (part of) west walls are man-made. Window in the northern wall.
