Monument Type(s) and Dates

  • FIELD BOUNDARY (XVIII to XIX - 1750 AD? to 1840 AD (Between))

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, 885-6 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The Tithe map shows a small square plot (885; Little Field) in the north-east corner of larger, roughly rectangular plot (886; Western Park).

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The later 19th century historic map shows some changes to the boundaries of the fields here; the smaller corner plot is no longer enclosed and the south-eastern boundary of this plot has been extended across the whole of the larger field.

Shame, S., 1994, Woodland Archaeological Survey Kennick and Tottiford Woods, Devon, Tottiford Reservoir - East, C1 (Report - Survey). SDV360483.

Survey records a low dry stone wall running north-east by south-west up to the edge of the reservoir, continuing the boundary to the north-east that still divides this sector of the plantation. (Not shown on the historic maps).

Ordnance Survey, 2017, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV359962.

Modern mapping doesn't show any of these boundaries; area now has modern forest tracks within it.
