Summary

A series of linear earthwork banks and cropmarks interpreted as the remains of post-medieval to 20th century narrow ridge and furrow for possible improved drainage are visible on aerial photographs of 1947, to the northeast of Widdacombe, Thrushelton.

Traces of plough marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are visible on aerial photographs (p1&2) and were digitally plotted as part of the NMP. At their southernmost extent the features are visible only as cropmarks, but further north they survive as low earth ridges. The features lie within an area classed as rough ground showing signs of earlier use as agricultural land in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon. The marks are likely to be post medieval, possibly 20th century, in origin.
