Removed field boundaries are visible as a series of four parallel earth banks on aerial photographs (p1) and were digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. Traces of associated ridge and furrow are also visible. The features lie within an area classed as rough ground showing signs of earlier use as agricultural land in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The ridge and furrow mentioned elsewhere within this record possibly refers to the 19th-20th century practice of the mechanical ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow so as not to be confused with medieval ridge and furrow.
