Cropmark remains of a ridge and furrow field system are visible on aerial photographs (p1). The remains are within an area described as 'rough ground showing signs of earlier use as agricultural land ' in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon and are likely to be of medieval or later origin. The ridge and furrow has been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. It has now partially disappeared beneath the A30.

The medieval, or later, ridge and furrow mentioned elsewhere within this record more likely represents evidence of improvement ridge and furrow, a common 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been double-indexed to reflect this.
