Vis=12/3/1997 (keystone) features are quite plain but original features high quality. Besides roof, both cross passage doorways survive - tall volcanic stone arches with double-chamfered surrounds. Also remains of a stone mullion and transom window to hall. Medieval house had 2 room and cross passage plan comprising a 3 bay hall at w (uphill) end, and a 2 storey single bay e end on lower side of passage. May have been solar crosswing at w end or lower end solar in surviving upper room. Storeyed end separated from open hall by full height framed crosswall closing a main truss. Main trusses have intermediate trusses, which are nearly as large as main ones. All trusses are false hammer beams, most of which are boxed. Since joints between lengths of moulded timber were noticed in the surviving pieces, it seems likely that it was continuous across the hammer beans of both main and intermediate trusses. This is the only decorative finish in the roof. Dendro analysis failed to date timbers. Suggest date c.1500 (keystone).

Vis=est=1958 (doe) a most interesting 15th century farmhouse. Main roof of early hammer beam type. Screens passage with two printed doorways. Original windows of hall: solar partly destroyed (doe, 1958).

HOSKINS, DCNQ 22, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV44679.

According to records of the court of wards of 1631, the manor of tremill or traymill was then held by the reynells (hoskins, dcnq 22).

DOE, 1987, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV44681.

Traymill farmhouse. Probably c15, remodelled in the c17. Volcanic stone rubble; thatched roof, gabled at ends; right end stack, rear lateral stack. The present range, on an east-west axis, contains the core of a very high quality late medieval open hall house, difficult to date owing to the rarity in devon. Two storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window south front with a gabled trellis porch to the volcanic ashlar double chamfered 2 centred arched doorway to the through passage. Earlier features may be concealed behind modern plaster. Internally the medieval hall window has a splayed embrasure with a rounded segmental head with a hollow-chamfer along each side. An outstanding medieval roof survives the full length of the range. Roof structural features including evidence of smoke-blackening. See doe list for full details (doe, 1987).
