A series of cultivation marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are visible as low earth ridges on aerial photographs (p1) and were digitally plotted as part of the NMP. The marks are likely to be post medieval, possibly 20th century, in origin. A field boundary is also visible as a low earth bank. The features lie within an area classed as rough ground showing signs of earlier use as agricultural land in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely represents evidence of improvement ridge and furrow, a common 19th-20th century practice involving the mechanical ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
