Young, A. & Turner, S., 2005-2006, North Devon/Winkleigh Biomass Plant National Mapping Programme (NMP) project database records, PRN167610 (Interpretation). SDV358473.

A series of cultivation marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are visible on aerial photographs (p1) and were digitally plotted as part of the NMP. The marks are likely to be post medieval, possibly 20th century, in origin. Roughly half of the features survive as low earth ridges, the other half are visible only as cropmarks. The features lie partly within an area classed as C18th and C19th post-medieval enclosures and partly within an area classed as rough ground in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely refer to the 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
