A series of cultivation marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are visible as low earth ridges on aerial photographs (p1&2) and were digitally plotted as part of the NMP. The marks are likely to be post medieval, possibly 20th century, in origin. They cover an extensive area, stretching from SS 47854 01218 in the west to SS 48795 00842 in the east. Three removed field boundaries are also visible but these are likely to predate the cultivation marks. The features lie partially within an area classed as rough ground showing signs of earlier use as agricultural land and partially within an area classed as medieval enclosures based on strip fields in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely refer to the 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
