Summary

Cropmark ditches of an enclosure of potential prehistoric date are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 on Chilla Moor, Black Torrington. The cropmarks have alternatively been interpreted as representing post-medieval to 19th century drainage ditches.

Transcriptions of ditches correspond to the grid reference for PRN167584.

A possible curvilinear, univallate enclosure, 40m x at least 28.5m, is partially visible as a cropmark ditch on aerial photographs (p1) and was digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. No northern side to the enclosure is discernable. To the immediate south is a 121m long ditch, also visible as a cropmark. Both features may alternatively be post medieval/modern drainage ditches. The features lie within an area classed as being of uncertain character in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.
