A series of cultivation marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are visible on aerial photographs (p1&2) and were digitally plotted as part of the NMP. The marks are likely to be post medieval, possibly 20th century, in origin. They cover a very extensive area including Stewdon Moor and the land to the north, extending from SS 48630 01676 in the south to SS 48508 03019 in the north. Roughly half the features survive as low earth ridges, the remainder are visible only as cropmarks. In the far south, at SS 48654 01630, a removed field boundary is visible as a cropmark ditch. A further boundary to the immediate north east survives as a low earth bank. Both boundaries are likely to predate the cultivation marks. For the most part the features lie within an area classed as rough ground in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.
The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely refer to the 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
