Extensive traces of cultivation marks, similar to straight, narrow ridge and furrow, are visible on aerial photographs (p1-3) and were digitally plotted as part of the NMP. The marks are likely to be post medieval, possibly 20th century, in origin. The features extend into the parish of Black Torrington in Torridge, north east to SS 47335 03782. The features survive as low earth ridges but in one field, at SS 46793 03651, are visible only as cropmarks. The features lie within an area classed as rough ground in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.
The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely refer to the 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
