Young, A. & Turner, S., 2005-2006, North Devon/Winkleigh Biomass Plant National Mapping Programme (NMP) project database records, PRN167565 (Interpretation). SDV358473.

In fields south of the A3072, up to 1km east of Lydacott, extensive traces of cultivation marks are visible on aerial photographs (p1) and were digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme. The marks superficially resemble ridge and furrow but are very regular, straight and narrow and are likely to be modern in origin. In places they survive as low earthworks but for the most part are visible only as cropmarks. Most of he features lie within an area classed as rough ground in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon, but some are within an area classed as medieval enclosures based on strip fields.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2017-2018, Backlog recording of the Winkleigh National Mapping Programme Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360588.

The cultivation marks mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely refer to the 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow.
