The cropmark remains of linear banks, forming a series of small enclosed fields, are visible on aerial photographs (p1). It is possible that they are associated with the settlement of Waggadon; the two smallest enclosures are adjacent to the road that runs through the hamlet, and are similar in size and shape to small enclosures on the opposite side of the lane that are marked on the OS 1st Edition 1:2500 mapping. The enclosures vary in size from 30m x 10m (those nearest the hamlet) to roughly 60m x 30m (fields to the south of Waggadon). The features are sited within an area described as ‘Medieval enclosures' in Devon’s Historic Landscape Characterisation, and are likely to be of medieval origin. They have been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.
