Summary

Earthworks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947, to the west of Drake's Farm, Chittlehamholt. An orchard is depicted in this location on both the First and Second Edition Ordnance Survey maps.

Parallel ridge and furrow is visible as low earthworks on aerial photographs (p1). Trees are marked here on the OS 1st Edition 1:2500 scale map and therefore it is likely that these ridges are the remains of a post medieval orchard. The site was digitally plotted during the National Mapping Programme and is sited within an area described as medieval enclosures based on strip fields in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.
