Parallel ridging is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (p1). It is very straight and narrow and therefore considered likely to be post medieval in origin. The site was digitally plotted during the National Mapping Programme and is sited within an area described as C15th to C18th ‘Barton’ fields in the Historic Landscape Characterisation for Devon.

The parallel ridging mentioned within this record by Young & Turner likely represents evidence of improvement ridge and furrow, a common 19th-20th century practice involving the (mechanical) ploughing of ground for the improvement of drainage and or areas of rough ground. This monument record has accordingly been indexed as narrow ridge and furrow so as not to be confused with ridge and furrow typical of the medieval period.
