Summary

A slight curved cropmark ditch is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947, at Down Farm, King's Nympton. It has been interpreted as either a medieval or post-medieval field boundary or part of an enclosure of potential prehistoric date.

A curved linear feature approximately 50m long is visible as a single ditch on aerial photographs (p1). It is sited within an area described as ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields’ in Devon’s Historic Landscape Characterisation, and it is possible that it is a field boundary of medieval or later origin. Its curved nature however, coupled with its location abutting/ cut by a length of field bank (prn 167713) would suggest that it is the remains of an earlier enclosure. The feature has been digitally plotted as part of the National Mapping Programme.
